Despite being located in the heart of cattle country, the superlative Spiral Diner & Bakery is proudly all vegan, all the time. Proprietor and vegan Amy McNutt opened the eatery in 2002 when she was just 22 years old and moved to a much bigger site on the Southside's Magnolia Avenue in 2004. The extensive menu offers neither meat nor foods containing eggs, honey or dairy. But you won't miss them a bit. Highlights include an array of salads, wraps and entrées ranging from red coconut curry noodles to spaghetti with soy meatballs. For your sweet tooth, Spiral serves pies, cakes and cookies, along with sundaes and fruit shakes. Voted Best Vegetarian Meal in the 2007 Fort Worth Weekly readers poll. Beer and wine available, including organic varieties. A Dallas location opened in late February 2008. Serving lunch and dinner Tue–Sun. Closed Mon.
