Located in the southwest Fort Worth Hulen Point Shopping Center, Maharaja specializes in "Texas-style" northern Indian cuisine, with plenty of vegetarian options. The lunch buffet certainly draws a crowd. Breads and meats are baked in a charcoal-fueled oven that adds always-welcomed flavor to the already robust spices. Various yogurt drinks, teas and flavored naan (flat bread) with mango or lime chutneys make good starters. The signature mixed grill, served in a sizzling iron pan, comes with a bed of onions and green peppers covered by a variety of meats that can be ordered as entrées on their own: tandoori chicken, tandoori prawns, chicken tikka, lamb medallions and ground lamb. Other favorites include the lentil soup with rice and chicken, the chickpea fritters in yogurt, and the chicken tikka masala. Vegetarians, try these: saag paneer (house-made cheese in creamed spinach), the vegetable samosas and the kofta curry, which are dumplings in hot curry sauce. For dessert, try the gulab jamun, a sweet pastry ball served in syrup. Full bar. Serving lunch buffet and dinner daily.
