Nestled on the north bank of the New River in a century-old mansion, The River House affords one of the city's best views. This nostalgically romantic estate once housed the railroading family Bryan, who began boarding travelers in order to turn a small profit, thus establishing Fort Lauderdale's first hotel. This Riverwalk darling may look back in time for ambiance, but its menu faces forward, drawing on Caribbean, Asian, Mexican and Mediterranean cuisines to influence the New American menu of old favorites with a modern twist, such as crabmeat-encrusted halibut and The River House carrot cake. Live entertainment Thu–Sat evenings and the first Sun afternoon of each month. Full bar. Serving dinner Tue–Sun. Sun brunch 11 am–2:30 pm. Closed Mon.
