Located in the historic, Romanesque-style Whitney mansion, The Whitney comprises a number of ornately decorated dining rooms over three floors, each room maintaining a unique décor. Dining options are as opulent as the ambiance, with offerings such as in-house smoked salmon, blue cheese soufflé salad and the signature Old Detroiter, a 24-ounce porterhouse. The elegant Sunday brunch (10 am–3 pm) is a prix fixe meal in four courses, starting with light pastries and juices and ending with a selection of the restaurant's highly touted sweets such as the Whitney Chocolate Ugly Cake. (These treats have made The Whitney a popular spot for dessert alone.) In summer 2008 the restaurant introduced outdoor dining for lunch and dinner as well as weekday drink and food specials 4-6 pm with a new, more casual garden menu. Full bar. Serving lunch Tue–Fri, dinner Mon-Sat inside the mansion, lunch and dinner Mon-Sat in the gardens. Closed Sun.
