Since the first location opened in 1985, Tom's Oyster Bar has expanded to three other locations in the Detroit area, with one more opening in Fall 2007. Framed magazine covers on the wall, dark wooden floors and furniture, and a tin ceiling complete Tom's signature dark-saloon atmosphere. Oysters and seafood are flown in from all around the country to provide the variety at Tom's Oyster Bar. Daily specials are listed on blackboards around the restaurant and are erased as guests gobble them up. There is an Oyster Happy Hour at the original Grosse Pointe location from 4–6 pm daily. In addition to oysters, popular dishes include smoked mackerel, trout, calamari, blackened halibut, and Cajun dishes such as shrimp Creole and jambalaya. House specialties include crab cakes, oyster pan roasts and sautéed grouper. The same cook has made Tom's Key lime pie for more than 20 years, and locals praise its authentic southern Florida flavor. Reservations suggested for large parties. Entertainment varies by location. Serving lunch Mon–Sat, dinner nightly. Late-night weekends.
