This shotgun-style restaurant isn't for diners who want a quiet meal alone. Detroit dines together at increasingly jammed tables as the lunch hour picks up, and strangers seated next to each other dive deep into conversations about anything from movies to metaphysics. Even the waitstaff joins in the dialogue, and locals often joke that a degree is required to be a busboy at Russell Street Deli. During the week, Russell Street serves up classic deli sandwiches (Reubens, chicken salad, salami, etc.), salads and a rotating selection of soups. On Saturdays, a spectacular and wildly popular breakfast features more unusual dishes such as French toast made from raisin bread, and Havarti, asparagus and dill omelets. No alcohol available. Serving lunch Mon–Fri, breakfast and lunch Sat. Closed Sun.
