Outsiders may know it as the spot where union leader Jimmy Hoffa was last seen, but locals know Andiamo Italia West as the chic, upscale Italian restaurant where Detroiters go to see and be seen. Part of a larger group known as the Andiamo Restaurant Group, Andiamo Italia West reflects the luxury of its neighborhood. Musicians stroll the sunflower-yellow and royal purple dining area, while many business deals are closed at the lively, contemporary-style bar. Traditional Italian favorites such as bruschetta, osso buco alla Milanese (a rich, buttery veal shank served over fettuccine) and classic pasta dishes such as manicotti, gnocchi and lasagna abound on the menu, as do chef specialties. The lunch menu includes lighter pasta selections rounded out with a variety of salads and panini. Any dish containing Italian sausage and meatballs is a memorable choice, as both are made in-house.
