The first Lucile's opened in Boulder in 1980, with subsequent locations following in Fort Collins, Longmont, Steamboat Springs and finally, in 2005, Denver. Lucile's has been voted best breakfast in Boulder by nearly every publication along the Front Range, and the Denver locale has quickly become a favorite, too, with some of the best eggs Benedict anywhere, a true café au lait, and fresh orange and grapefruit juices squeezed by your server. The original chef trained at New Orleans' legendary Commander's Palace, so the well-portioned entrées are Cajun and Creole in origin, the Zydeco and Cajun background music helping to carry out the theme. Look for eggs Sardou and sides of andouille sausage and red beans. The piping-hot beignets are a must-have, as are the buttermilk biscuits with house-made jam. For lunch, the catfish po-boy, a sandwich of crispy fish in a fresh baguette with black bean mayonnaise, is a treat. Be sure to check out the daily specials, especially Thursday's spicy jambalaya. Reservations suggested. Liquor and wine available at Denver and Longmont locations only. Serving breakfast and lunch daily. Voted Non-Traditional Eggs Benny in the 2009 Westword critics' poll.
