The original home of one of the most authentic cheese steaks in the Denver area is tucked into a strip mall along South Colorado Boulevard. Taste of Philly is an unassuming, mostly takeout joint that packs them in at peak dining times and smells deliciously of grilled onions all the time. The owners lived in the Philadelphia area until moving to Denver to open this eatery in 1993. There are now seven Colorado locations, each bringing the owners' love of all things Philly to their restaurants. Start with the cheese steaks: hearty, crusty-outside rolls that can stand up to the all-important over-stuffing of tender, grilled chopped meat and grilled onions layered with melted cheese. Taste of Philly also serves decent hoagies. For dessert, go Tastykake or go home, according to any Philadelphian. Service can be slow during the lunch rush, so plan accordingly. No alcohol available. Serving lunch and dinner daily.
