At Where The Locals Eat, we’ve assembled a hardy band of certified foodies —
passionate gourmands to near-omnivores – who eat out a lot and know the difference between a restaurant special and a special restaurant. They’re adventuresome in their grazing and don’t mind trekking across town in search of the new and the different. We uncover these foodies in a variety of ways, and sometimes we weigh the ratings a bit, giving extra attention to reviewers whose palates we know to be a cut above the rest. We supplement that foodie group with our own band of finicky writers and researchers who have a fine eye for the unusual and a keen sense for what makes a great kitchen, a creative menu and a memorable dining experience. The result is our list of the top 100 very best restaurants in each of the largest 50 cities in the United States, including best-of winners in any number of dining categories. So yes, we know it’s a stretch to say that your favorite greasy spoon is at the top of the fine cuisine list, but it may well top our list. That’s because we think it’s every bit as important to honor the greatest hot dog and the finest home-cooked meat loaf as it is to recognize the white-tablecloth restaurants where you might celebrate your anniversary or dazzle your date. Ultimately, we are reminded that a city is ever evolving, as are its restaurants.
