Good eating's generally not easy to come by in the Financial District, despite the volumes of hungry office workers who fan out into the neighborhood at lunchtime. Finding good, healthy eating is even harder, and good kosher? Forget about it. But the Milk Street Cafe, best known for its corporate catering program, serves all of the above in the form of veggie sandwiches, soups and salads – all served quickly and at a decent price at the small, bright storefront, where a few butcher block tables offer limited seating. In the morning, grab a muffin, scone or sticky bun to go with your coffee, or go the healthy route with a yogurt-fruit-granola parfait. At lunchtime, Milk Street's house-made soups are well regarded. Or try a grilled panini, such as the tuna melt, or avocado and Swiss with sprouts. Depending on the season, hot apple cider and fresh lemonade are among the drink choices. Tossed salads, pizza and quiche are also available. After 2 pm, the café reduces the prices on some of its food, so it's worth putting off lunch, depending on your appetite. No alcohol available. Serving light breakfast and lunch Mon–Fri. Closed Sat–Sun.
