Greek Corner Restaurant's unassuming blue and white storefront on Massachusetts Avenue in Cambridge belies a lively, family-owned neighborhood restaurant that serves simple, authentic Greek food. The décor isn't much, except for an enormous seascape mural on the back wall, but the friendly neighborhood vibe and the tasty dishes keep regulars returning. The inexpensive menu features basic Greek cuisine done very well. For starters, try the creamy avgolemono soup or a couple of the familiar appetizers, such as hummus, eggplant purée, grape leaves or tzatziki (yogurt with cucumber and garlic). A sampler plate will let you try a little of everything, including the taramosalata – a briny dish of red caviar. They also serve a tasty octopus appetizer. Choriatiki, the Greek chopped salad, is abundant and fresh – to have it as a main dish, add grilled kebabs. The dinner plates are a great value here. Try one of a handful of lamb dishes, such as the souvlaki – marinated, grilled chunks of lamb served over pita. Other traditional and hearty entrées include moussaka (eggplant-beef casserole) and various chops and kebabs. Dessert is baklava, of course. Beer and wine available. Reservations not accepted. Serving lunch and dinner daily.
