Three generations of the Attman family have stood behind the counter of this cramped Baltimore institution on what was once known as Corned Beef Row, serving up overstuffed sandwiches to hungry crowds. Founded by Harry Attman in 1915, the deli takes its cue from traditional New York-style Jewish delis and specializes in corned beef, pastrami, jumbo kosher hot dogs and chopped liver, all of which have won accolades from local city guides for many years. Keep it simple, or try one of Attman's popular combination sandwiches such as the Lombard Street (corned beef, pastrami and chopped liver) or the Exeter Street (chicken salad with pastrami and all the trimmings). House-made knishes are available on the side, as well as latkes, fries, thick-cut onion rings and jumbo dill pickles. For a sweet finish, try the rice pudding or a slice of house-made pie.
