"Katz's never kloses" is the slogan at this kosher New York-style deli and bar. Founded by former Queens, N.Y., deli owner Marc Katz in 1979, Katz's offers exceptional cuts of corned beef, salami, pastrami, turkey and an array of potatoes, coleslaws, vegetarian baked beans and other side dishes 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Step inside the red brick building to observe the urbanites that flock here to see and be seen. Not only does this local hangout feature one of the best Reuben sandwiches this side of the Big Apple, it offers traditional matzo balls, matzo ball soup, kosher pickles and crispy potato pancakes. Breakfast fare includes scrambled eggs with onions and lox; a bagel bundle with Swiss cheese, egg and grilled turkey ham; or a build-your-own omelet with fillings such as beef sausage, turkey ham, pastrami, or a variety of cheeses and veggies. Nibblers will love the mixed sampler of noshes: cheese bites, potato pancake, cauliflower, zucchini and fire dog (cayenne hot dog) with a chili dip. There's also an ample selection of freshly prepared soups and salads that pair nicely with the smoked Nova Scotia salmon. Overstuffed sandwiches include the ultimate grilled cheese with a choice of hot Muenster, Swiss, American, provolone or cheddar cheese on fresh bread such as Jewish rye, German pumpernickel, whole wheat, French, challah or sourdough. Check out the daily specials, such as Thursday's French melt with juicy prime rib roast beef piled with hot provolone on top of French bread with au jus, coleslaw and fries. And don't miss out on the fabulous selections of cheesecakes, from classic to chocolate to marble. Open hours daily.
