Life is too short to miss out on good food and good beer. So don't miss the opportunity to sample the tasty brews and beer-inspired dishes at North by Northwest Restaurant and Brewery. Fabulous mashed potatoes, or mashers, mixed with vegetables and seasonings are the consistent menu staple. A self-proclaimed meat-and-potatoes guy, chef George Powell makes small batches of mashers throughout the day, so every entrée arrives with fresh-tasting spuds. Roasted red bell pepper mashers pair well with rosemary, orange and butter sauce atop a chicken breast. And bleu cheese scalloped mashers have just enough flavor so as not to overwhelm the excellent beef tenderloin prepared in a port wine sauce. The selection of beers is as varied as the potatoes, among them: Northern Light, Bavarian Hefeweizen, Pyjimgo Pale Ale, Arkansan Black Ale and Duckbill Amber. The beers pair perfectly with the entrées and are a staple ingredient in the expertly battered and fried crab fritters and onion rings. An ale broth with garlic, red peppers and tomatoes give the mussels a surprisingly sweet, crisp taste. Other beer-friendly foodstuffs include well-seasoned sausage pizza, juicy burgers and worthy vegetable sides, including braised red cabbage. Desserts include frozen chocolate pecan terrine topped with dried cherry and chocolate sauce. The Saturday and Sunday brunch menu includes omelets, French toast, brunch pizza, steak and eggs, migas (Mexican egg scrambles), and poached eggs over shrimp and crab cakes. A kid's menu includes house-made root beer and cream soda that pair nicely with sausage and pepperoni pizzas, corn dogs and chicken drumsticks with mashed potatoes. Live music on various nights. Serving lunch and dinner daily. Sat–Sun brunch 11 am–2 pm.
