Named after the founders' mothers, Agnes & Muriel's appropriately features inventively nouveau "Mom food" served in a retro-kitsch environment straight out of Pee-wee's Playhouse. Starters may include macaroni and cheese fritters, pulled pork nachos and fried green tomatoes. In addition to plenty of soups, salads, sandwiches and burgers, homestyle specialties include fried chicken, barbecued pork ribs, brisket pot roast, and shrimp and grits, with a host of worthy sides (collard greens, fried okra, sweet potato fries). Beer, wine and brunch cocktails available. Serving lunch Tue–Sun, dinner Wed–Sat. Sat–Sun brunch 10 am–3 pm. Closed Mon.
